Coffee Quest

Chelbesa One is a vibrant washed coffee from Gedeb, Ethiopia, produced by around 1,000 smallholder farmers growing coffee at 1,950–2,200 metres above sea level. The lot consists of the Ethiopian heirloom varieties Korume and Wolisho.

Freshly harvested cherries are carefully sorted, depulped and dry-fermented for 2–3 days before being washed and slowly dried on raised beds for 7–10 days. This careful processing highlights the clean, elegant and expressive character Ethiopian washed coffees are known for.

Produced in partnership with SNAP Specialty Coffee, Chelbesa One reflects a strong focus on quality, consistency, farmer education and sustainable coffee production.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fresh is this roast?

Roasted weekly in Antwerp. We ship within 48 hours of roasting to ensure you get the peak flavor.

Is this right for my brew method?

We have a variation that is roasted for Espresso.
If you use a V60 or Chemex, check use our Filter version.

What is the difference between "Washed" and "Unwashed" coffee?

These terms refer to the "process"—how the coffee cherry is removed from the bean. Washed coffees are cleaned with water, resulting in a bright, clean, and "tea-like" cup that highlights the bean's origin. Unwashed (or Natural) coffees are dried with the fruit still on the bean, leading to a "funky," full-bodied cup with intense notes of ripe fruit and sweetness.

"Fruity" vs. "Not So Fruity"—how do I choose?

We categorize our coffees to make your choice easier. If you enjoy bright, acidic, and complex notes (like berries or citrus), go for "Fruity." If you prefer a more classic, chocolatey, and nutty profile with lower acidity, "Not So Fruity" is for you.
